Time to clean up for the new year

OK, so I really let the blog languish last year….. Working to try to correct that this year, but first: I realize many of the links I’ve posted to videos and such no longer work. I am attempting to sort through them and delete the non-working links, but please help me out and leave a comment on any links you run across that are non-functioning so I can get them cleaned up, it will be much appreciated by all.

Next, if there’s anything in particular you’d like to see me address via the blog this year, give me a shout, I’m open to suggestions. It can be martial arts/boxing technique related, fitness, health, training equipment etc. I have a variety of things in mind and I just have to take the time to do the writing, but I am open to suggestions from readers as well.

Finally, there exists the possibility this year of finally putting on some seminars in the Boston area: Jeet Kune Do/Jun Fan, Filipino Martial Arts, and/or Kickboxing . If you live in, or would be willing to travel to, the Boston area please drop me a line and let me know what your primary interests are and what days/months are viable for you.

Right then, that’s it for now as I am off to clean up around here a bit. More to come…….

Most people have seen the video of young Casey Haynes now. Here he talks about all the bullying he endured over the years and how it has affected him. I wish I could say I can’t relate, but my childhood was very much the same, up to a point, if for different reasons. Sadly, as the story points out, parents rarely realize how bad bullying gets. Schools unfortunately do little to prevent or deal with this child on child violence, which is shameful. Please watch the video, and share it with parents that you know: Perhaps they have children who are suffering mistreatment at school but may not realize it.

The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker is a must read for anyone who is interested in staying safe and helping those they care about stay safe. Rather than write a review of the book, which has already been done numerous times, I just want to point you towards and say it is one of the most well written, useful books you could read about how to avoid putting yourself in many of the REALLY bad situations that people often eventually encounter. Strangers, co-workers, family members, love interests…… most of the violence that occurs between people who have various relationships to one another is highly predictable. The author, Mr. de Becker, is verifiably one of the world’s foremost experts on these subjects and this book is by far the best and most accessible that I have read on the subject of predicting and avoiding violence. Remember: Violence doesn’t just happen to other people, and it is ALWAYS better to avoid trouble, than to have to deal with it, no matter what skills you may have.

Get the book, read it, and share it with others. It may very well save someone you care about from becoming a crime statistic.
